Open AFS is in unstable, and it works very well for me (at least, with a private cell; I haven't heard people complaining about huge problems with more reputable cells, though). Your only other major option is Arla, which I believe is in both stable and unstable, but people around MIT tend not to run it for whatever reason. I've only had one (very bad, about two years ago) experience with it. (It's possible if you are somewhere which uses AFS that you might be able to get a copy of the actual official Transarc AFS client.
