Ok, so I built and installed:
pcmcia-cs_3.1.22-0.1potato_i386.deb
pcmcia-modules-2.2.18pre21_3.1.22-0.1potato+custom.1.0_i386.deb
...but when I try to run cardmgr I get in /var/log/syslog:
