There's probably some magic number for vga= in /etc/lilo.conf, and (if my viao is any indication) "ask" probably won't show it as an option... Your best source of info for this and the X problem is the Linux Laptop page http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/ -Jon
