After initiating "startx" a window comes up with a menu. I am
not sure this is an X window or the window manager. But the mouse cursor
is not present and the mouse buttons are not effective. At this point
I don't think the screen is frozen because initially "enlightenment" scrawls in
the center of the screen. The mouse is a kensington track
ball. If necessay I would get another pointing device. But it
was working under an OLD ver of Slackware. It works under windows as a
PS/2.
I captured the startx log it is attached. Note that xinit reports,
"connection to X server lost."
This may terminated X and therefor the mouse never gets a chance to
work.
Just prior to that report the following is also reported:
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports: "
emp " > " -eml "
Errors from xkb comp are not fatal to the X
server.
XF86Config originally generated Device as "/dev/mouse"
I changed it to, Device "/dev/psaux." It still doesn't
work. See below:
1. startx startup log.
2. SuperProbe log

Hardware: PII 266 mhz 64MB, 2MB on Diamond,
kensington TB (PS/2)
OS: Linux 2.2.17 pre10 i686 [ELF]
X manager = enlightenment
Problem: startx results with screen and no
cursor.
- Blue/green screen appears with menu and a few
horizontal lines.
- "enlightenment" scrawls and
dissappeears.
- no cursor is present
- ctrl-alt-BS exits the window.

Other questions from startx as follows:
startx has following lines:
variable=$HOME/.xinitrc <= not present in HOME variable=$HOME/.serverrc <= not present in HOME variable=/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc variable=""""""""""""""""""""""""/xserverrc But the following is true xinitrc -> /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc (xinitrc is there) xserverrc -> /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc (no file) A find on *xserverrc* list it only at the dir above listed in startx. Any help is greatly appreciated. [EMAIL PROTECTED]
