Sorry for stepping in at this point, but this is really amazing. I've counted 20 postings with the subject lilo vs grub. When posting recently to the mandrake list I did get _two_ replies( relevant ones though), and earlier on fewer than that (with the same subject). What do you think of the number of replies from RH lists (in general, not necessarily with this subject)?
I have computers running RH/Rawhide, MDK/cooker, Debian/unstable and am rather happy with the situation though. (You get feeling for the flavor of different spices). Still, even if Mandrake, RedHat, SuSe, .. (thank you all) etc have great distributions and contribute a lot to the community and Free software development, in my opinion Debian is the best (including the very responsive people following the mailing lists, and apt-get of course ...). Later on hopefully the HURD will gain in maturity and interest, a lot is happening already, see eg. http://kt.linuxcare.com/debian-hurd/latest.epl Then we'll have a true GNU system, as envisioned out by RMS _many_ years ago :-) (No flames please, they are being directed to /dev/null) Seriously, maybe it's time to introduce the inclusion of grub to debian woody/unstable :) /Svante Brian May writes: > >>>>> "Bob" == Bob Hilliard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > > Bob> # For booting Windows95 title WIN95 on /dev/hdb1 unhide > Bob> (hd1,0) hide (hd0,0) map (hd1) (hd0) map (hd2) (hd1) > Bob> rootnoverify (hd0,0) makeactive chainloader +1 > > I didn't think Windows could boot from a slave drive? > > I thought it can only boot from a primary partition on the first > master drive. > > I could be mistaken though. > -- > Brian May <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > > -- > To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] > with a subject of "unsubscribe".
