I think there might be something wrong with GDM's scripts - but I could be wrong. There are a number of things that could cause those symptoms :( But the first thing I'd do is look in /etc/X11/gdm , and the subdirectories therein. They contain scripts that GDM runs. If something is wrong with one of them, who knows? :) Dave
