Good morning. In a fit of folly last night I recompiled my 2.2.17 potato kernel. Great - a lean mean kernel that boots up like lightning, but no apm :-(
By no apm I mean that the machine will not power-off at the end of a "shutdown -h now" I've never persuaded it to do more than that! But that much I have hitherto managed. Apm IS enabled in the kernel. and my /etc/lilo.conf contains the magic line append="apm=on" Last time this happened I had to re-install (the OS!) and then it worked fine. But I have seen the error of my ways and realise now that this is not "the Debian way". Help!
