apt keeps its own cache of package status, which is in a format that it can read faster than dpkg can read its own. Unless something has gone badly wrong, though (or, in the case of available packages, if you've used 'apt-get update' rather than 'dselect update'), they will be in sync. -- Colin Watson [EMAIL PROTECTED]
