It's a more or less well known work-around. But I've unfortunetly had this very same problems with NFS between two Debian boxes. I haven't done enough data-gathering to see exactly under which conditions it happens, but it's annoying, especially if you have some scripts which depend on these "mounted" filesystems. :-( So, I guess that this is more of a problem with the kernel than with a particular module/feature.
