FWIW, I have an old s3-virge (3d-2000 i think) that the 4.01 Xserver seems to detect incorrectly. At first I thought I had bad video timings - the screen is sort of fuzzy and replicated three times horizontally. Then I realised the X (hardware driven?) cursor was unnaffected - it moves smoothly and only appears once on the screen. Using the 3.3.6_svga server (which has been integrated nicely into the 4.01 debs - thanks Branden & co) fixes the problem. Mark.
