Hi, swap is used for memory storage that the system doesn't expect to need in the near future, but data is only put there to conserve real memory, so you must not be doing very memory intensive stuff.
Try creating a 1200x1200 RGB image in gimp then look at your swap :) My system currently have one *active* user, but 4 sepperate local X sessions going with netscapes a StarOffice or two etc... this is what top shows: Mem: 255196K av, 236436K used, 18760K free, 0K shrd, 1908K buff Swap: 498004K av, 149036K used, 348968K free 35660K cached -Jon
