It _was_ working yesterday, then I upgraded a bunch of (woody) packages and backspace stopped working. The Windows key also stopped being usable as a meta. I haven't looked at the FAQ yet, so I can't say whether it has information useful to this particulat case, but I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that something in one of the updated packages broke it.
