Anyhow, several users did some tweeks and all seemed well tell the next boot... fsck was the norm, and I actually died hard, down to e2fsck and rebuilt the superblocks... So, just consider this a heads up.. You might see significant gain, but DO read the man page and make sure you have backups - just in case fsck/e2fsck can't bring the drive back...
