Hi, I had the same problem: I did the apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade and dpkg got killed all the time. Then I uninstalled all the KDE 3.0.5a components and installed the new packages of 3.1 and it works fine. I had also to remove some of the kde3.0.5a configurations in ~/.kde because knotify crashed all the time... but since it's working fine. I think it's all because of the possible coexistence of kde 3.0 and 3.1, so all the packages aren't upgraded, so all must be removed and then installed
