I first messed up my system (I was left without ldconfig but had a backup copy), then removed packages like g++, libstdc++2.10(-dev), libsasl7, libldap2, and xemacs21 related packages, and was finally able to install libdb2, libc6, libc6-dev, and locales successfully. Thank you all. -- Andre
