Hi all! I've recently installed a ELSA MicroLink ISDN 4U to my local network. In case you don't know it, it's an ISDN terminal adapter combined with a 4 port hub for a local network. I've three computers connected to is, two running RISC OS and one notebook running either GNU/Linux or (rarely) Windows 98 (on notebooks you need this for some special things).
Ok, now my problem: On the other two OSes everything works ok, but I can't figure out how to configure my Debian GNU/Linux box in order to use my 4U as gateway for everything. When I do the following on vici (my notebook running GNU/Linux) I get (with caesar being the 4U router): vici:/etc/network# route Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface localnet * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0 127.0.0.0 * 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo default caesar.local.ne 0.0.0.0 UG 1 0 0 eth0 So, this looks ok to me, isn't it? Going out of my local net with an IP address I now works, so I think things are basically right. But using a host name doesn't work, but brings an "unknown host name" or similar error message. So I looked inside /etc/resolv.conf and changed the nameserver from 127.0.0.1 to the IP of the 4U (the 4U acts as an name server as well). But if I use a host name now, nothing happens, no error message, but the host name doesn't get resolved either. What am I missing here? How do I configure my GNU/Linux system to use the 4U as gateway (including DNS)? Thanks for your help in advance.
