good news: it's out there. probably on your installation already. bad news: if you find it, you're doing Very Well. but perhaps that's as it should be. unix (and its grandson linux) has a rich history, and many different folks with different ideas came up with different solutions to the 'how to introduce new folks to X Y and Z'... man, info, http... things to try: - point your browser to http://localhost/doc/debian/FAQ or file:///usr/local/doc/debian/FAQ - there's also lots of goodies under /doc/HOWTO* - and /doc/HTML - if you don't have those locally, try www.debian.org/doc/FAQ - check for installed tutorials: `locate tutorial` - see the officially-sanctioned debian tutorial at http://www.debian.org/~hp/debian-tutorial.html - and the guide at http://www.newriders.com/debian/html/noframes/ welcome to our dark and moist dungeon. feel blindfolded yet? there are some powerful creatures in here, and many of us have done battle for hours in a process of coerced learning which setting to change, in what file... tasks would have taken minutes if we'd known what to look for, and where. i've been at this since march, and am only now beginning to see that i can understand some of this stuff. 'tis a tough climb, but the view -- the view from up here is absolutely stunning!
