You're trying the link a *static* library that depends on libpthread. If you link against the shared library, then that should not be an issue. The difference is between: $ gcc foo.c -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lX11 # link against shared library and $ gcc foo.c /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.a # *incorporate* object archive > Thanks.
