restore fails

I can dump file systems without problems but the restore fails.

I am calling

 restore -ivf /dev/nst0

I can run the commands cd and ls but when I do a 

 add file

the command fails with

 bad name to addentry ./dir/dir2/file
 abort? [yn]

Any ideas?
