Hi, I'm trying to setup a small (for the moment) two machine private network, but I'm having trouble mailing from a user on one machine to a user on the other machine. I am using a hub, and the machines are able to ping to each other.
My Debian linux box is a 486 which I plan on using as a firewall/masquerading/gateway to my DSL ISP, but to do this I need to upgrade my glibc and some other programs. These programs reside on my other linux box which runs MkLinux on a Mac clone. To make a long story short, the only practical way I can see to transfer the programs is to either mail or ftp them from the Mac to the 486. The 486 debian uses mutt and exim, and the Mac Mklinux uses pine and sendmail. I've gone over all the configuration files I can think of, but still -- after many many maddening hours of trying -- the localnet mail system is not working. Also, and this may be a clue to the above problem, trying to anonymously ftp the files is a problem because the ftp server on the mac won't recognize the client's email address (which it asks for) as a valid password.
