I am having basically the same problem, except that I built XFree86 4.0 from source and I use that as my X server. Almost all packages built against the older X libraries work fine, but dselect keeps bugging me to install these packages. Is there a way to get it to stop bugging me once and for all, instead of having to override dselect's recommendations every time?
