Don't the parport modules tend to automatically detect most hardware, and lp works fine with polling? For the longest time, i had no options for any printer-related modules and printing worked fine. Perhaps it depends on the particular configuration. One day i got bored and looked into tweaking things. In case it would help anyone, here's when i ended up with (Epson Stylus Color 600 printer, so tunelp -T is helpful): # Have parport automatically use the irq. Needs the io specified to do # that for some odd reason... options parport_pc io=0x378 irq=auto # Have lp trust the irq. /usr/sbin is ok because this won't be loaded # before /etc/rcS.d/S35mountall.sh post-install lp /usr/sbin/tunelp /dev/lp0 -T on >/dev/null 2>/dev/null -- finger for GPG public key.
