- In my case I didn't use DOS 6.22, I tried with Win95, Win98, WinXP
- I had just one partition
- On the new disk I created the new partition with linux (and the file system too) and after restoring the boot sector everything went ok, so
Anyway for Jeetu problem: you didn't say with operating system is installed on the machine (or I missed that ;)
I would try recovering the partition table before resorting to create a new partition and restoring backup.
