I have 3 machines behind a very slow modem. I just put a squid proxy server up. Once that was running I set these three lines in my profile:
ftp_proxy=http://proxy.rnd-consulting.com:3128 http_proxy=http://proxy.rnd-consulting.com:3128 gopher_proxy=http://proxy.rnd-consulting.com:3128 And now it appears to be using it nicely.
