Hi there,

Currently I use Netscape Communicator for browsing, and have a Roaming
user profile set up to work with apache. That works fine and is not my
problem. I also mainly use mutt for e-mail, but sometimes use communicator
and read my mail through using IMAP.....
This works, but I frequently travel outside my domain and then I cannot
access my IMAP server... this happens even from dialing up from home with
my ISP... Cany anyone tell me what is the problem here ?

I thought it might be /etc/pam.d/ - it doesnt seem to be, I believe I have the
correct entry in /etc/hosts.allow (imapd: ALL : ALLOW) and also in
/etc/hosts.deny in case of hostname problems when I dial in via my ISP
(ALL EXCEPT imapd: PARANOID) ....

Succesful imap requests appear to be logged into mail.log, but attempts
from outside my domain don't appear to be logged there ?

Also, when I am outside my domain, (i.e. at some other university/lab) why cant
I just authenticate myself to my server and use that as an SMTP relay for my
outgoing mail ... ?
How should I set this up on a user-by-user basis, in other words not allow
the relaying of spam but still allow my e-mail messages to be sent ?

I'd be really grateful if anyone could address either the IMAP problem
or the SMTP problem...

TIA
Cormac

p.s running a frozen potato, and using smail as my MUA
