i had the same problem. if you have debconf configured not to ask any
questions, then it looks to me like console-data switches to the
azerty (or whatever it is called) keyboard without asking. it think
this is a bug in console-data but i don't have the time to investigate
this further. go to /etc/console-tools and look for default.kmap.gz,
and possibly a default.kmap.gz.old. copy the old keymap (this is what
i did and my console started behaving again), or copy the appropriate
keyboard map from /usr/share/keymaps, or run kbdconfig. hope this
