i had this problem too, *I* attributed it to the driver, when i used acceleratedX it worked fine, but when i used XF86 (on certain versions) it did not, i just didn't ctrl-alt-f2 anymore :) if i needed to go to the console i'd kill xdm and exit out of X. Try upgrading the X driver, XF 3.3.6 is out now, it might help..but it might not. clavio >cdemo:~# insmod lp clavio >Using /lib/modules/2.2.14/misc/lp.o clavio >/lib/modules/2.2.14/misc/lp.o: init_module: Device or resource busy clavio >cdemo:~# is the driver already loaded? if not the hardware might not be configured in a way that the module can locate it. i always compile the parallel printer support directly into the kernel. i only use modules for sound/vmware/bttv/lm_sensors/ipmasq/ppp compression. clavio >The printer IS fine, it's been tested on a Windoze machine the same day. clavio >What could be wrong here too? its not a problem with the printer(yet) its for sure a driver problem with the parallel port itself. If you have a modern PC with onboard parallel, if you havent already i'd HIGHLY reccomend hard setting the lpt port in the bios to an address and not use "PnP" for it. nate ----------------------------------------[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ]-- Vice President Network Operations http://www.firetrail.com/ Firetrail Internet Services Limited http://www.aphroland.org/ Everett, WA 425-348-7336 http://www.linuxpowered.net/ Powered By: http://comedy.aphroland.org/ Debian 2.1 Linux 2.0.36 SMP http://yahoo.aphroland.org/ -----------------------------------------[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ]-- 10:12am up 151 days, 22:16, 2 users, load average: 1.42, 1.57, 1.62
