Someone referred me to this site which has the deb packages for sawmill and
it works great. I haven't had any problems yet.

This doesn't answer your question directly, but you might take a look
at scwm, which is packaged for slink and shares some similarity with
sawmill. AFAIK, you'd have to compile sawmill for slink yourself, but
I may be mistaken.
