... which has nothing to do with security, htough it may help you when
and if the machine blows up and has to fsck on reboot.  Of course,
synchronous writes are slower, which is why the linux default is async.
You can change this behavior in /etc/fstab for either OS.

I'd like to see real stats comparing IP stack performance - I've heard
lots of anecdotal evidence, but nothing formal.
