The code freeze for "potato" (the current "unstable" tree which uses 2.2.x kenels) has been rescheduled for mid-January (see http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=99/11/07/1611205&mode=nested). During the code-freeze, the remaining release-critical bugs will be delt with and integration testing will be done, after which it will be released. In the meantime, you can of course run "potato" already; be sure to report problems you find.
