Don't worry about the compression negotiation.  That just means that you
and your ISP have no compression method in common.  Software compression
doesn't make much difference anyway, as the modems compress pretty well.

Pppconfig put noauth in the provider file, overriding the auth in
ppp/options.

What do you mean by that?  I thought your connection was working.

Don't let all the naks and confrejs in the log confuse you.  That is just
the two pppds negotiating a mutually acceptable set of protocols.  If the
connection comes up you're ok.
