I apologize if this not a pure Debian matter but the slink server on my
small LAN gives the following error messages from time to time. When this
happens the network is unusable and I need to reboot the server. Does
anybody know what these mean? Is my network card broken? Or could somebody
point me to the right direction.

Messages:
"eth0: i82586 reset timed out, kicking..." (this is usually repeated a few
times and then)
"eth0: i82586 not responding, giving up" (and the net is down)

When rebooting I see also the following
"eth0: i82586 startup timed out, status 0400 ..."
