In our /etc/hosts, there's only "127.0.0.1 > localhost". I have a system here that gets an ip address through dchp as well. I've noticed that it has problems unless there's a line in /etc/hosts that aliases the hostname to some valid ip address. For example, my box has this in /etc/hosts: 127.0.0.1 localhost 0.0.0.0 anomie Using 0.0.0.0 means things _should_ always work, even when the box is disconnected from the 'net. Just now i tried commenting that second line out and restarting proftpd. It died with an error "Fatal: unable to determine IP address of `anomie'." If you run ftp from inetd i would think that could cause the specified trouble... Of course, i could be wrong here, but it's worth a try. - -- finger for PGP public key. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.3ia Charset: noconv iQCVAwUBOADi4r7M/9WKZLW5AQH8uAP+PnF8o3R3URPxxroETUGmYuUe6nyGXza2 wkfVIQ7yqDt4n35oTPgbXBJRY60mHmiowDXpm610q9ljQNsjgILwtvOlmiIBJmF2 eh7CtWs2yBDYVM6KwfNdrrQimY60if+Lpjh4G7hKMerohvUYQjW7qtFte2u5GTZl WXqcrQbIZaA= =xh9Y -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
