Have a look at /usr/doc/fetchmail. There are two skripts to be put in /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/ and /etc/ppp/ip-down.d/ and an sample global fetchmailrc file, to be put in /etc/. fetchmail will automaticaly run as a deamon, fetching mail for different users in regular intervalls, till the ppp conection goes down.
