Heh, thanks for the reality check. I wil;l give the dynip and forwarding a shot -- can't hurt :) as for the cables and card, cable is known good, and one of the network cards is known good. And, I thought of the firewall rules in the wee hours of the morning -- they seemed fine, but setting all to default to allow, it still didn't go. :(
