postgres is the user that owns the postgres data files, and the user that
the postmaster is run as (much as www-data is for apache).  A better plan is
to su to postgres only to make your human dba's username a postgres user,
and give him the ability to create users and databases. It would be best if
the user postgres had an invalid password (*), like ftp and mail do.
