Not on current Debian systems, but if get in the habit of using halt and reboot and end up on another system that doesn't have this built-in check then you could run into trouble. >From the man pages of halt and reboot in the sysvinit_2.76-3 package: NOTES Under previous sysvinit releases, reboot and halt should never be called directly.
