Thats probably the case....it doesnt know of msdos yet. Try compiling it into the kernel. To remove the kernel: do you have the old kernel laying around in /boot as a backup boot option? Then just boot it instead of 2.2.10. If not, just install the 2.0.* kernel with dselect and boot into it.
