I have a server which has a tape drive that has been known to hang up,
freezing access to the backup for cron jobs. Naturally, kill -9 fails, but
I want to avoid having to reboot when this happens. Is there any mechanism
in debian (or linux for that matter - using 2.0.36) for bringing down the
device, killing the process and bringing it back up?
