That's where I was about 2 years ago. Just install it -- it's easy. When I figured out how CGI works, I was so excited I worked on CGI shells scripts till about 5 AM (didn't know perl at the time). Apache's docs are at www.apache.org/docs/ and I hate to plug a commercial site (especially one that does not benefit the software authors), but there are some useful tips at www.apacheweek.com.
