I'm shortly going to reformat my harddisk to remove my Windows
partitions (yay!) and I want to make a complete backup of my
entire Linux system.

If I create some tar.gz archives from / and store them on CD-R,
will I be able to use the rescue disk to format and mount the new
partitions, and just restore the archives from CD?

Is there a better way to do this?
