I don't think that's anything to do with it. BSD UNIX *is* a UNIX operating system (Berkeley Standard Derivation or somthing), so it is within its rights to call itself UNIX. Linux is sort of MINIX based, and therefore *not* a UNIX-based OS. I think someone produced a POSIX-compliant version of Linux awhile ago which could be called UNIX, but that could be a crossed neuron path in my brain or something. -- alisdair mcdiarmid [why?]
