 Yup, it worked back when I had Win 3.1 - it's
almost-but-not-quite-because-Microsoft-never-does-anything-quite-right
backward compatible. If you create any filenames with Linux that are
longer than 8.3, they'll show up as mangled under DOS, but usable.

 I've heard some DOS filesystem utilities might complain, though I didn't
run into any.
