There's a fix available now. From the changelog: shellutils (1.16-6.5) unstable; urgency=high * Fix su not-suid-root problem (closes #38776, #38766, #38750, #38752, #38761, ...); needs a recent debhelper to compile, though (>=1.2.44 should be OK)
