For the java info specific to linux, you might have a look at http://www.blackdown.org/
If you are running debian hamm, then you will need to get the jdk1.1 and jdk1.1-dev package from the debian ftp site. The link is: ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian-archive/dists/hamm/non-free/binary-i386/devel/ You can get the tar.gz as well from other site.. but I would recommand to use the deb packages...
