Except that, if you read the original post, Xv mode was crashing my
machine... :-(

I found that another problem I was having is that I'd set my bit-depth
to 24 instead of 16 -- I've seen vast improvements in playback since
that switch. It's still a bit choppy, but then again, I'm not planning
on watching whole movies on the machine (yet ;-0 ).
