It more likely has to do with the quality of the IDE cable; there are few recent cables that have only two connectors (mobo & master). It's probable that both interfaces support two devices, BTW. I'm curious: are you always using the hard drive in question as the only device on the interface? Does it make a difference? If you have multiple devices on one interface are you certian you have them jumpered correctly (one master, one slave.
