What's the difference between ALSA, OSS > (comercial) , OSS/Free (and is OSS/Free the same as kernel sound drivers > 2.0.x or 2.2.x ?). And are there any other linux sound drivers ?
OSS/Free: Also seen as "OSS Lite". This is what is in the kernel source. OSS/Commercial: Expanded version of OSS/Free but mainly it includes drivers whose specs are only available using an NDA. ALSA: Hopefully the replacement of OSS/Free one day? Alan Cox plays a big role in ALSA. -- Ed C.
