Hi Steve, The menus are automatically generated by the debian packages menu. On installation packages that support this put a file describing there menu entries in /usr/lib/menu. Then they run update-menus to add these entrie to the menus of the various window managers and programs like pdmenu. For more info see the documentation of the menu package.
