For the backspace key: try adding
keycode 0x16=BackSpace
to your /etc/X11/Xmodmap file.
For Netscape: The icon colour just doesn't work properly at 24 bit
colour. It isn't much of a problem, it just means Netscape looks a bit
funny, and I think that it is fine at 8,16 or 32 bit colour.
